      What all does Tata Indicom Mail offer?

      Tata Indicom Mail is a full-featured, e-mail system that does not include ad’s on e-mail you sent unlike other free mail service providers and also offers you free POP access at no extra charges. The webmail lets you compose, send, receive, and manage email, including multimedia messages, from a browser. You can also create and edit a list of stored personal email addresses for regular recipients of your email. There are various filters which enable you to manage your emails better.     2. Do I get an email ID when I register an account with Tata Indicom Broadband?

      Yes, you will get one complimentary email ID with a 50 MB mail storage space for Broadband and 5Mb space for Total Internet users. You can purchase additional mail Ids. Your login Id (internet access user ID) is also the default e-mail ID

      How do I configure my Email Settings?

      Once you have registered with Tata Indicom Broadband, you get an e-mail account. To download mails on your PC, you can configure an e-mail client on your machine. For more details click here Your e-mail account address will be myself@vsnl.net ( in case of prepaid ) and myself@eth.net ( in case of post-paid) , where myself is the User Name you create on registering with Tata Indicom.

    4. What is the maximum Size of a file that I can attach while sending E-mail?

      You can have a total e-mail size of maximum 10 MB including the e-mail copy and the attachment size, while sending a mail.
      Please note that while sending an email attachment of say 2MB size to 10 email Ids, the data sent by you will be calculated as 10 * 2 = 20 MB.  

    5. What is the browser that I should have for the new web mail?

      The web mail can work on any java script enabled web browser. The recommended browsers for optimum performance are
      Internet Explorer 5.5 and onwards.
      Netscape Communicator 4.7 and onwards.

      How do I avoid typing my User Name every time in sign-in page if I use the same computer?

      Check in the checkbox "Remember my User Name on this computer".

    7. How do I check my messages?

      Give the sign in name, select the domain name (e.g.vsnl.net, vsnl.com Etc), enter the password. You will land into a summary page. Click on the "Inbox" link to view your messages.

    8. How many messages can I view in a single page?

      By default it will show you up to 20 messages. However you can set the number of messages you want to see in a single page. For changing this go to "Options" page, select "Appearance" tab, Go to the "Message List View" section and set the appropriate value.
      You can configure the following mail clients for your Tata Indicom e-mail account.

        • Microsoft Outlook Express 4.0 (or) above
        • Microsoft Outlook 97
        • Netscape Messenger
        • Eudora 5

          For Pre-paid, The server settings for POP and SMTP are:
        • POP3 (Incoming) Server Name: mail.vsnl.net
        • SMTP (Outgoing) Server Name: smtp.vsnl.net

          For Post-paid, The server settings for POP and SMTP are:
        • POP3 (Incoming) Server Name: mail.eth.net
        • SMTP (Outgoing) Server Name: smtp.eth.net

    9. How are the messages sorted in the Inbox page of my mailbox?

      By default the messages are sorted on the basis of the date of arrival of the message. You can choose the various other options like Priority, Attachment, From, Subject and Size of the message to decide on the sorting pattern.

    10. What are the various options available to sort the displayed messages?

      Based on the sort order by priority of message, with/without attachments, message type i.e. read, unread, deleted, based on the from address, based on the alphabetic order of subject ,date of message and size of message.

      Which folders are available by default? Can I create my own folders?

      By default you will have Inbox wherein your messages will be delivered, Sent folder wherein you can save your message copy sent from your mailbox, Junk folder wherein you can define your own filters to deliver the mails instead of mailboxes, Drafts folder where you can save unsent messages which you want to view later and Trash folder wherein your deleted messages lie for a day if you have selected default settings.
      However, you can create as many personal folders and subfolders as possible.

    12. What is "Get Mail" option in inbox page?

      It is a feature to help you refresh your mailbox with any new messages that would have come in.

    13. What is the Block tab for?

      You can check in against the sender from who you do not want to receive further mails. You can limit up to maximum 20 such IDs from which the incoming emails will be blocked..

      What is "Collect External Mail" tab for?

      If you have any other POP account, then we provide you with the feature to fetch the mails from your pop account and store in the folder selected. All you need to do is to provide the mail host, login ID and password details and web mail will.

    15. How much free mail space is available to me?

      5 Mb your Tata Indicom Total Internet pack and 50 Mb for Tata Indicom Broadband pack  

    16. I want additional mailbox space, how much maximum mail space can I opt for?

      Over and above your default mail space your ID. You can purchase up to 75 MB of additional mail space.

    17. Is there a Spam control on Tata Indicom Mail service?

      We provide the most advanced anti-spam control to your Tata Indicom mail service.
      More over you can personalise your filters too to block any IDs from sending you emails.

      How do I change my password?

      Login to the My Account section of www.tataindicombroadband.in for Broadband user and http://internet.vsnl.in for Total Internet users.
      Click the Change Password option.
      Click on this option and then change your password.
      We recommend that you change your password frequently to minimize possible misuse of the account.  

    19. How do I activate additional mail ids ?

      Prepaid customers can click here and activate any e-mail related service

      For post-paid customers

      For availing additional E-mail Ids, you will need to fill in the Request Form for the same and pay for the additional e-mail id charge of Rs 200 p.a per email id. After the same is received by us, we shall call you to confirm the same and you can then configure the same on www.tataindicombroadband.in in the My Account section. Click on "Register paid E-mail Id" in the My Services section submit the additional e-mail Id option that you wish to create.

      My internet account has expired. Will my Email ID and stored mails get deleted?

      The email service comes along with as part of internet pack. If your primary internet access account expires, you lose your email access and thus your emails are deleted.
      To continue using the Tata Indicom E-Mail, renew you account. You will not be able access any e-mail account if your primary account is not active.

    21. Can I change my Email Password?

      The internet access password is the default email password. You can change the internet access password to change your email password.  

    22. What should I do if I forget my password?



      For Postpaid customers
      Please call customer service in your city and they will reset your password. You can then logon to www.tataindicombroadband.in and change your password.

    1. What is Web2SMS?

      Web2SMS is a SMS service from Tata Communications Limited mail services, which enables users to send instant SMS messages to any Indian mobile phone/network. Through your Tata Communications Limited login ID,.
      All SMS messages sent from the Tata Communications Limited mail services Short Message Service does not include any promotional tag line.

    2. What are the charges?

      Standard SMS rate of 1 rupee per SMS applies for each SMS you send. This is 50% cheaper, in case you choose to send SMS to another city for which standard mobile rates are Rs 2 for intra-city SMS.

      Should I put a "0" in front of the number after the country or STD code?

      No. The format for each number must be country code only, which is already entered and the mobile phone number or the fixed phone number, for example country code 91 and mobile or a fixed phone number would give 919223055600 - if your network/STD code begins with a ‘0’ it should be omitted.

    4. What is the maximum length of an SMS message?

      Standard SMS messages are 160 characters long. Tata Communications Limited allows messages of up to 160 characters long in order to include your identity, your user ID is inserted which forms a part of the 160 characters.

      Is there a limit on how many messages I can send?

      No. Send as many messages as you want to as many people as you want. However, spamming and abusive messaging is strictly not allowed on the Tata Communications Limited SMS service.

    6. I get the an error message while sending SMS or going back , what does this mean and how can I prevent this?

      If you have already sent your message and tried to go back to send it again, you will receive this error. However, some messages appear because your browser is not compatible with our service. Check that you have cookies enabled on your PC, and try emptying your browser cache. For best results, use Internet Explorer.
    7. Can Tata Communications Limited confirm if my messages have been received?

      Tata Communications Limited only guarantees sending the SMS to the intended service provider. This is confirmed when the successful sending of SMS is displayed after the submit button is clicked. Remember, delivery can sometimes be delayed, even if your SMS was sent to the mobile network instantly. This is dependent on the recipients’ network loads. In case you experience difficulties in sending SMS, or SMS are not received please contact Tata Communications Limited’s customer care.

    8. I use Tata Communications Limited to send text messages often. Can I maintain all phone numbers?

      Just turn on the auto complete feature of your browser. This will save all entries of phone numbers on the mobile number label.

    9. Is it possible to send the same message to more than one number at a time?

      No in order to protect the interest others privacy and avoid bulk SMS being sent out of out network. It is not possible to send more than one SMS at a time.

    10. Can I receive replies to sent messages from Tata Communications?

      No this service is not currently active, replying messages sent by Tata Communications Limited’s web2SMS will yield no result.

  • Additional E-mail Ids

      What are the charges for getting additional E-mail Ids and additional e-mail space?

      The charges are Rs 200 for Broadband users and Rs 250 for Total Internet users, this is a yearly charge for each mailbox. The default mail box size for Broadband user is 50Mb and for Total internet users is 5Mb. You can also increase their mailbox size to an additional 75Mb. So Broadband users can have a maximum mail box size of 125 Mb and Total Internet users maximum mailbox size can be 80 Mb
      If you are a Pre-paid customer, you can use the value in your existing account to pay for the charges for these services.
      If you have a post paid plan, you will need to submit the Additional Services form, duly filled along with the charges. You can download the Additional Services form here.

      You can purchase up-to a maximum of 75 MB additional mail space, over and above the free limit.

    2. What is an additional mail ID?

      An additional mail ID is an extra mail box over your existing user ID

    3. What are the charges for it?

      Rs 250 per annum for Total Internet users and Rs 200 for broadband users. This is for the period of one year from the date of requesting an additional mail ID. You can alternatively choose to set this charge on auto renewal to enjoy undisrupted services, you will be sent a notification before and after deduction of charges or choose to disable auto-renewal at any point if you wish to discontinue your this service. You will be reminded about your e-mail expiry or renewal in either case! Please note that this ID will allow access only to e-mail and not internet.

      • For emergency purposes or for any purpose which is critically dependent on continuous fault-free service.

      You will be able to send messages of up to 160 characters of text (including spaces) that comply with the standard GSM alphabet.

      You must not use Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts to send messages that:

      • Are threatening or harassing;
      • Defame another person;
      • Pornographic in nature;
      • Contravene any applicable laws;
      • Are misleading or deceptive as to your identity; or
      • Interfere with any other person's use of Tata Communications Limited’s SMS Mail Alerts.

      Tata Communications Limited may at its sole discretion discontinue your access to Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts on violation of any of the above terms.

      You are not permitted to use Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts for the purposes of:

      • Advertising products or services; or
      • Sending messages that are not personal messages.

      Tata Communications Limited may at its sole discretion discontinue your access to Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts if indulge in any of the above activities.

      If your mobile phone account you are using for Tata Communications Limited Mail Alerts are suspended or disconnected, either temporarily or permanently, you will not be able to use Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts during that time.

      Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts is subject to Tata Communications Limited’s network capacity restrictions.

      We reserve the right to alter Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts without notice to you, including the exercise of Tata Communications Limited's rights under clause 7.

      Tata Communications Limited may suspend or restrict your use of Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts at any time and for any reason, including, if:

      • Tata Communications Limited reasonably believes that network traffic generated by Tata Communications Limited Mail Alerts is impairing, interfering with or damaging Tata Communications Limited’s's network;
      • Tata Communications Limited needs to do maintenance to Tata Communications Limited's network; or
      • Tata Communications Limited needs to protect Tata Communications Limited's interests or Tata Communications Limited's systems.

    9. What are the charges for Tata Communications Limited SMS Mail Alerts?
    10. Your mobile phone carrier will charge you Rs 1 for every SMS received while using Tata Communications Limited Mail Alerts service irrespective of whether the message is successfully delivered to, or received by you; and

      each SMS Mail Alerts message you send (e.g. replies) irrespective of whether the message is successfully delivered to, or received by, the intended recipient charged at standard SMS rates applicable under your mobile phone provider plan.

      Tata Communications Limited expressly excludes all liability to you for any breach of any express term, Implied Term, any other implied term or any negligence on the part of any of Tata Communications Limited's employees, contractors or agents.

You agree that Tata Communications Limited or any of its affiliates or group companies may use and disclose personal information about you for providing services to you and for the improvement of customer service, including by means of research, marketing (direct or otherwise), product development and planning.

      • The SMS message provides the sender, subject and as much of the message that fits into an SMS.
